Amazing news: two of DDMT's most loyal supporters took on the Marathon Des Sables and raised nearly £20,000 for the Trust, ICVI and MIND in memory of Dougie and Sammy Johns. On 31 March Guy wrote:
"In a little over 5 days time I will be flying out to Morocco with Snuggsy to take on what is labelled “the toughest foot race on earth” the Marathon des Sables. Over 6 gruelling days we will be running 250km across the Sahara which equates to approximately a marathon a day with a double on day 4. Ultra-runners (which we are not) like to call this the main event with the first 3 days seen as "warm ups." We will be carrying all our equipment including food in temperatures upward of 50 degrees
As you have witnessed we have had the worst marathon training weather probably in the last 25 years so getting out for long runs at the weekend has been particularly soul destroying but it’s all for a good cause. We will be raising money for three very worthy charities close to our hearts which you will find on the virgin giving page below. CAF cheques are also welcome if you prefer
If you so wish to track our progress across the desert we will post instructions on how to do this on the sponsorship page
Many thanks for your donations in advance. Please feel free to forward this on to anyone who would be interested in the challenge and the cause."
The Trustees and all at DDMT were staggered at the achievement and so grateful for the response which was stupendous.
We would love to hear from you if you know of any soldier (whether current or past), family member or any project that might benefit from our help.
